The Gunite Pool Construction Process
Layout & Excavation
We start by painting the pool’s shape directly on the ground for your approval. Once confirmed, heavy machinery digs the soil to the precise contour and depth of your design, carving out the shallow and deep ends.
Steel & Rough Plumbing
To ensure structural integrity, a cage of steel rebar is hand-tied to form the pool’s skeleton. Simultaneously, we install the rough plumbing—the network of pipes, drains, and skimmers that will circulate your water.
The Gunite Application
Concrete (gunite) is pneumatically sprayed over the steel cage at high velocity. This creates a rock-hard, seamless shell that is watertight and incredibly durable—the trademark of a quality permanent pool.
Hardscapes & Decking
Now the pool takes on its style. Craftsmen install the waterline tile and coping (the pool's edge) before laying the surrounding deck. Whether you choose pavers, travertine, or concrete, this step connects the pool.
Interior Finish & Startup
Finally, we apply the waterproof interior surface (such as quartz or pebble) and immediately fill the pool. We then balance the water chemistry, fire up the equipment, and give you a instructions on how to use your new oasis.

How long does the pool construction process take in Central Florida?
Do I need a building permit for a new pool?
Yes. All residential swimming pool projects in Orange, Seminole, Lake, and Volusia counties require a building permit. If you choose our Pro Package, we provide you with fully engineered “permit-ready” plans and guide you through the submission process to ensure your project meets all local safety codes.
Gunite vs. Fiberglass: Which is better for Florida homes?
Gunite (concrete) is generally preferred over fiberglass in Florida for three reasons: Durability, Customization, and Value. Gunite shells are monolithic (one solid piece), engineered to withstand our sandy soil and high water tables better than pre-molds. Additionally, gunite allows for total design freedom—we can build any shape or depth to fit your specific backyard layout.
Will the excavation process damage my yard?
Excavation is a major construction event involving heavy machinery, so some impact is unavoidable. The grass in the “access path” will likely need to be replaced, and irrigation lines may need to be capped. However, once the pool deck and hardscapes are installed, your yard is transformed into a clean, cohesive outdoor living space.
How wide does the access path need to be for machinery?
Standard pool excavation equipment (like a Bobcat) typically requires an access path of 5 to 7 feet wide to move from the street to your backyard. If you have fences, a panel may need to be temporarily removed. For tighter spaces, we can utilize smaller machinery, though this may slightly extend the excavation timeline.
Can I swim immediately after the pool is filled?
Almost! Once the water level reaches the middle of the tile, we perform the pool startup. We turn on the pumps and filters to circulate the water, but the chemistry (pH, alkalinity, and chlorine/salt levels) must be balanced before it is safe for swimmers. This typically takes 2–3 days after filling.
What kind of warranty comes with a new pool?
We stand behind our build quality. The structural gunite shell is designed to last a lifetime. For mechanical components, top manufacturers like Pentair or Jandy offer 3-year warranties on pumps, filters, and heaters when installed by a professional. Our consulting team ensures all your equipment is properly registered to maximize your coverage.
Is a salt system better than a traditional chlorine pool?
A salt system is a chlorine pool—it simply uses a salt cell to generate pure chlorine from dissolved salt, rather than relying on liquid or tabs. We highly recommend salt water systems for Central Florida because they produce softer, less irritating water and generally require less daily maintenance than traditional chlorine pools.
